IT will be history-in-the-making as FUFA crown their first ever footballer of the year during the glamourous Nile Special FUFA Awards at the Golf Course Hotel in Kampala tonight.

The red-carpet ceremony will see either Steven Bengo, Brian Omony, Caesar Okhuti or Cranes team captain Ibrahim Sekagya become a proud owner of a Toyota Corona UAL 353A worth sh10m, –the most lucrative reward for a Ugandan footballer.

Nile Special are the main sponsors of the first-ever football awards event organised by Anfield Communications.

“By nature of the game, the superstars of football are celebrities in the same way as music and movie stars are world over. It is a high profile social event which is going to go along way in re-positioning football and footballers in this country,” Anfield Communications CEO Aldrine Nsubuga noted.

Austria-based defender Sekagya has been tipped to sweep the largest share of honours on the night following his achievements at Red Bull Salzburg and the Uganda Cranes during the 2007/2008 season.
