FIVE children last week left for India to undergo open heart surgery courtesy of the Indian Association of Uganda.

Naren Mehta, the head of the association, said the children would be operated on at the Narayana Hrudalaya Hospital in Bangalore at a cost of sh50m.

The children are Bridget Nabukalu, Bridget Anzoa, Amos Wailagala, Tony Mullo, and Pius Mwide.

“I would like to thank all companies and individuals who have contributed to this life-saving cause. This is in line with our mission of saving lives of needy Ugandans. This is just the beginning but we plan to make it annual for Ugandans because we are aware that heart patients are many and need help,” Mehta said.

Mehta said Indians in Uganda have in the past contributed millions of shillings for several social causes.
