MPs are investigating circumstances under which the original land title for the home of the mentally handicapped children at Kireka went missing.

The parliamentary committee on gender and community development says there is a private developer who wants to buy the land.

Committee chairperson Beatrice Amongi Lagada (NRM) said, they plan to visit the school soon.

“Parliament wants to find out the seller, the whereabouts of the original land title and the interested buyer. Many schools have been sold under the guise of private developers,” Lagada lamented.

The school, located on plot number 1,109 blocks 232 on Jinja road, offers special education to mentally retarded children aged four to 18. It is managed by the education ministry.

The school’s head teacher, Annette Siima, only has a photocopy of the original land title. “There was no official handover of office to me. The school was in shambles with no financial record keeping and no assets registered,” Siima said.
