The frequent construction site disasters in Uganda are alarming.

Not only do they claim precious lives, they continue wasting taxpayers’ money in commissions of inquiries which never yield any positive results. Major decisions must be made about the matter.

It is high time builders all over the country formed builders’ unions just like their fellow colleagues in other professions to fight for their rights.

There must be favourable working conditions and fair pay, among other conditions. These deaths can be avoided. Why should people’s lives be put at such risk?
