PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni yesterday congratulated Barack Obama for being elected the 44th president of the United States of America.
Below is the full message:
“On behalf of the people of Uganda and on my own behalf, I would like to salute and congratulate you for the great victory that you scored yesterday, 4th of November, 2008.
It is a great victory for you and for all the American people. That all the sections of the American people could transcend race and vote for an African-American is, indeed, a historic achievement for the USA and the World - the latter by the force of example.
Keep Africa in your prayers as we are also waking up from the long slumber and disorientation that saw Africa go through slave trade, colonialism, neo-colonialism and marginalisation.
African countries are vigorously, not only engaged in regional integration, but also discussing political integration in order to end or reduce the excessive political balkanisation of Africa that rendered us vulnerable in the first place.
We look forward to working with Your Excellency.â€
