FORMER Commonwealth super featherweight champion Justin “The Destroyer” Juuko was turned into Justin the Joker on Saturday.

Juuko, well into his twilight years, was knocked out in the first round of a 12 round IBA lightweight world title fight by Russia’s Rustam Nugaev in Naberezhnye, Chelny.
The home fighter showed his superior power at the outset and never stopped delivering punches in bunches.

The 35-year-old Ugandan veteran took a knee after a huge left to the trunk and the referee wisely stopped the fight almost instantly after that.

Juuko fell to 43-10-1, 29 KOs as he registered his tenth loss in a professional career that started in 1991 in Las Vegas, USA, where he knocked out Gilberto Diaz.

In his 17-year career, he has fought some of the greatest fighters in the world who include the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Junior, Diego Corrales (RIP), Carlos Hernandez, Miguel Angel Cotto and Jose Armando Santa Cruz. Juuko is remembered for taking fights at short notice and it has had bad effects on his career.

He previously was promoted by Panos Eliades, Don King, Top Rank, Dan Goosen, X-Cel Entertainment, Frank Warren and Frank Maloney.
