DOKOLO - The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called for the restriction of livestock movement across the Uganda-Sudan border so as to check sleeping sickness. The WHO officer for disease control, Dr. Yoti Jabuloni, told journalists on Thursday that about 119 cases of the disease were recorded in the district since June, with 30 people hospitalised in Lwala Hospital in Kaberamaido district. Dr Samuel Ojok, the district health officer, said the WHO had contributed sh70m towards fighting the disease. Dr. Abbas Kakembo, the principal medical officer in the Ministry of Health, urged the leaders to strengthen animal check points to ensure that animals are treated before being transported to other areas.

Sh11m tools to check violence
GULU - CARE,a humanitarian organisation, has donated medical equipment worth sh11m to help victims of sexual gender-based violence in Gulu and Amuru districts access medical services. Judith Adokorach, the CARE project manager, said the equipment would provide comprehensive and quality response which would help mitigate consequences of sexual violence.

Congolese held over theft
ARUA - A Congolese national who is suspected to have stolen a motorcycle from Obia in Congo before fleeing to West Nile region has arrested and handed back to Congolese authorities. Sunday Zona was recently arrested at the Arua customs point in possession of the motorcycle. The move follows a meeting by officials from both countries last month who agreed to jointly hunt law-breakers.
