SAMONA, producers of cosmetics, have asked the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) to apprehend individuals and companies that import and make fake cosmetic products.

Bernard Beyongyera, the firm’s public relations and communications manager, said a number of small companies were making fake cosmetics, which they sell as Samona products.

Beyongyera urged UNBS and the National Drug Authority (NDA), to increase their vigilancy and crackdown on companies, which make fake products.

“The cosmetics industry is delicate and needs to be monitored well to avoid health risks,” he said.

He added that UNBS should enforce standards to protect people’s lives.

Beyongyera was speaking during the Samona mini-draw for the eastern region in Iganga on Saturday.

The draw was part of the countrywide Samona products ‘Enjoy Your Beauty and Win’ promotion that has been running for the last six months. Customers from Busia, Kaliro, Namutumba, Bugiri and Jinja won prizes.
