DESPITE a bumper registration of 10,800 entrants for last Sunday’s MTN Kampala Marathon, only 7019 participants were registered by the race computers.

Up to 3800 runners did not turn up, or failed to make it to the finishing point.

ChampionChip, the company that tabulated the results indicated yesterday that 4326 male and 1855 female runners completed the 10km race while 838 were disqualified for various reasons including taking part in the wrong race or returning times faster than the race winners.

Some runners, who registered for the 10km race opted for the half-marathon (21.1km) and vice versa.

Moses Kipsiro won the 10km race, that was discovered later to be 800m shorter in a record 26minutes, 44seconds but the last male runner in this group came in two hours later.

The half-marathon attracted 691 runners, 99 female and 583 male. The full marathon (42.km) attracted 177, 22 women and 153 men.
