MEMBERS of Parliament from Bulisa district, the Bagungu community and Tullow Oil Uganda Limited have organised celebrations to mark the discovery of oil in the district.
Bulisa county MP, Mukitale Birahwa, said the celebrations are aimed at congratulating Tullow Oil and the NRM Government for investing in the region.
“The event is intended to celebrate the discovery and to bridge the gap between the community and the oil company,†Birahwa said.
He said it was time to seize the opportunity instead of blaming each other.â€
Birahwa said Tullow Oil officials would brief the country on the success so far made, their plans and how the discovery would benefit the community.
Over 700 guests are expected to attend the function which will be held on Saturday at the parliamentary gardens in Kampala.
They will include 300 professionals in different fields, 200 entrepreneurs and 200 locals from Bulisa.
The prime minister of Bunyoro, the minister for energy, Bulisa district officials and elders are invited.
According to Tullow Oil, the district has one of the best oil wells in the Albertine basin because of the thick and rich hydrocarbon structure that clearly separates oil and gas.
Since the first oil discovery in 2006, all the exploration wells that have been drilled in Hoima and Bulisa have registered good results with wells located toward the northern tip of Lake Albert notably excellent.
Tullow and the Government are developing the infrastructure to support early production.
The scheme is to produce modest amounts of fuel to feed a thermal power plant needed to plug the growing electricity deficit.
