KITGUM - The local government and health department have appreciated the district HIV/AIDS focal person, Thomas Ojok, for fighting against the spread of AIDS. Ojok received a certificate of appreciation on Monday, during celebrations to mark the World AIDS Day at Paloga subcounty headquarters in Lamwo county. The presidential assistant, Haji Muhammad Mayanja, represented the President. Mayanja handed over the certificate to Ojok.

LC5 deputy sacked

MOROTO - The district chairperson, Peter Ken Lochap, has sacked his deputy. Adero Loki’s dismissal was announced in a statement copied to the district council last month. Adero was attending a one-week workshop in Lira. She is the councillor for Nadunget subcounty. Paska Lobur Napeyok, her replacement, is the councillor for Iriiri subcounty. Lochap quoted the 1997 Local Government Act sub-section 21 which mandates a district chairperson to revoke the appointment of any member of the executive committee.

Elderly asked to teach youth

LIRA - Older persons have been asked to promote culture and good behaviour among the youth. The deputy resident district commissioner, Geoffrey Aluma, was speaking at Akii Bua stadium on Wednesday on the International Day for older persons. The LC5 chairman, Franco Ojur, urged the older persons to register as a non-governmental organisation so as to lobby for funds.

Youth urged to stick to NRM

GULU -The NRM youth have been urged to popularise the party and avoid vice. The deputy resident district commissioner, Milton Odongo, said this while opening the NRM youth league seminar at Sports View Inn on Saturday. “The NRM youth league need more resources to dislodge the deep-rooted traditional oppositions in the north. But in so doing, the NRM cadres should stop being conmen because an NRM who is a thief is worse than an opposition,” Odongo said.
