SPECIAL-hire taxis in Mbarara that were operating without licence stickers were impounded on Wednesday.
The operation was jointly carried out by the traffic Police chief, Daniel Chemonges, and the transport licensing board officials.
Muhammad Katamba, the transport licensing officer, said the operation targeted special-hire vehicles without checkered bands (stripes) and those lacking the labels ‘S’ and ‘Taxi’ as required by the law.
He said unlike in Mbarara, special hire operators in Ibanda, Ntungamo and Bushenyi had complied with the law.
A licence sticker costs sh30,000.
