SIR — I would like to point something out with regard to the forest reserve debate. Uganda’s forests are the habitat of over 1,000 species of birds while all of North America has only 400 species! Our outstanding patrimony of such a variety and breathtaking beauty of African birds is a tremendous asset for the future in terms of attracting tourists for bird-watching.

The mother in each of us should rebel at the thought of so many little birds dying because we have not done our part to protect and even nurture their life, not to mention the good of those who will follow us.
