MASAKA resident district commissioner Bamusedde Bwambale, has urged residents to take to the streets. He wants them to demonstrate against the municipal council’s failure to account for funds released by the Government for various projects.

MASAKA resident district commissioner Bamusedde Bwambale, has urged residents to take to the streets. He wants them to demonstrate against the municipal council’s failure to account for funds released by the Government for various projects.
Bwambale attacked the Mayor, Eng. Tibyasa Matovu, and his council for boycotting Friday’s Liberation Day celebrations. He also slammed them for attacking President Yoweri Museveni over “simple issues,†and said the mayor had failed to deliver on many Government programmes.
Bwambale was addressing residents on Friday during the celebrations at Liberation Square.
He said he had invited the mayor to attend the function. Bwambale accused Matovu, a Democratic Party member, of boycotting the event on the pretext that the Government had failed to deliver, yet his council was the one failing its programmes.
Bwambale said the mayor had failed to supervise the tarmacking of a 1.5km stretch of road at Bwala, costed at sh150m. He said the work was abandoned midway after the contractors had been paid 75% of their dues.
“I know all the money that comes here from the Government to run development programmes. But Masaka municipal council cannot account for this money. They cannot even supervise these projects, yet blame the Government for their failures,†he said.
Bwambale said he would ask the Government to take over the running of the municipal council if they did not change.
Bwambale said Masaka town was among the dirtiest towns in the country, and blasted landlords for failure to provide their tenants with toilets.
