Church leaders should not behave like Pharisees

One wonders whether such people ever learn from everyday experience and from Jesus. You can take a smartly dressed man or woman to church to tie the knot, but you cannot take their spirit of love and commitment to marriage along with you (which church wedding is supposed to symbolise).

That is why in the Western world that is so strict on the law, over 90 percent of the marriages are ‘legal’ but over 50 percent of them end in divorce! One of the things that annoyed Jesus so much was the legalistic religious institutions like those of the Pharisees which paraded the law ahead of the grace of God.

institutions that believe that they can make a ‘good Christian’
using the law, rather than relying on the grace and Spirit of God labour in vain. No wonder some people are deserting some of these churches.

Religious leaders should stop being obsessed with the law, because the law will never make a good Christian. It is only the grace of God that can.

Instead of pushing couples into ‘official’ marriages they are not yet prepared for, why not teach and persuade them to the benefits of a church marriage.

Whereas the Spirit of God helps, the bad spirit criminalises one’s behaviour.
