KUMI - Is time up for cattle roaming on the streets of Kumi town? The council authorities on Wednesday seized 200 animals in a campaign aimed at improving hygiene in the town. A law enforcement officer, Samson Ogwang, said they had warned the animal owners before the crackdown kicked off. The town clerk, Francis Oluka, explained that the council had asked the court to allow them auction the animals and have their owners jailed for a year. It is common for animals to roam around Ugandan towns.

Guard jailed over theft

JINJA - A night watchman was on Friday charged with theft and remanded in Kirinya Prison. Martin Onyala is suspected to have stolen two generators worth sh1.8m from Hussein Kakande’s home at Muvule Crescent in Jinja town. He appeared before Grade One Magistrate, Salaamu Ngobi, and denied the charges. Onyala, who was guarding Kakande’s home, will reappear in court on March 7.
