MIRIA Obote, the president of the Uganda People’s Congress party, is a leader without a vision.

According to the Bukedea district education officer, Peter Auruku, if Miria was enlightened, she would not have scoffed at the Universal Secondary Education (USE) programme, just four days after it started.

On February 22, The New Vision reported that Miria described the programme as “sub-standard, cheap and (a project) meant to keep the majority of Ugandans in a vicious cycle of poverty.”

Under the programme, the Government will provide sh29,450 per child in a government-aided school, while those in private schools will be given sh47,000.

Auruku wants Miria to suggest another strategy to improve education in the country rather than criticising USE, which he said was providing affordable education to Ugandans.

Schools have been overwhelmed by the high numbers of students reporting for Senior One under USE.

Auruku blamed the party for misinforming the public and warned that if they continue doing so, they are bound to fail again in the forthcoming presidential elections.

Miria stood for the presidential polls last year and came last.
