SIR — The chaos at Nakasero Market on Friday had traders engaging the Police in a running battle.

SIR — The chaos at Nakasero Market on Friday had traders engaging the Police in a running battle.

The traders have been on a sit-down strike because of the talks between Kampala City Council and tycoon Hassan Bassajjabalaba. I wonder why Mayor Nasser Ntege Sebaggala is not concerned!

The Police used their infamous teargas to stop traders from rioting. In return, the traders launched ‘tearchilli’ at the Police.
The ‘tearchilli’ is a mixture of chilli pepper and water.

This was not a good idea, since the concoction affects both parties.

I know that the traders have been offended, but we cannot achieve what we want or attain peace by creating chaos. All we need is calmness so as to resolve the problems in Uganda amicably.

The Police should only use teargas where necessary.

It is indeed becoming annoying and stressful to have them cause flu, cough and dizziness to innocent citizens even at peaceful demonstrations.
