SIR — Africa needs to subsidise farmers. Chronic shortages of food, stunted bodies and under nutrition are glaring manifestations of this fact.
SIR — Africa needs to subsidise farmers. Chronic shortages of food, stunted bodies and under nutrition are glaring manifestations of this fact.
But the funds necessary to do this, when not directly stolen, are spent on building institutions and acquiring instruments of coercion.
This being the new chapter of Africa’s tragedies, none of us has any right to complain about the west subsidising their farmers’ products.
They do this because they, unlike us, are responsible for their people’s welfare and their priorities are set right.
