THE Kigulu South MP has cautioned Iganga residents against being recruited into rebel ranks.

Milton Muwuma said several youth in Iganga district are suspected to have joined rebel groups.

“It is not news because some rebels who were captured a few years back came from here. Let us reform and stop sending our sons and daughters into such activities,” Muwuma said.

He was on Saturday attending a graduation celebration for Sumaya Namatende who attained a diploma in secretarial studies from Nakulabye Secretarial Institute recently. The function took place in Nampirika village.

He said the Government had received intelligence reports of a resumption of rebel recruitment in the district.
“You cannot blame the Government for believing the reports because it has happened before. If we are not careful, insecurity could rise in the area,” the MP warned.

He advised the constituents to abide by the law and avoid being misled by wrong elements. He urged them to use the relative peace to embark on developing their area.

“Parents should come in to help. Their advice to children can stop them from being recruited as rebels,” Muwuma said.
