THE closure of Nation Television (NTV) was due to administrative problems, says the Minister of Information, Kirunda Kivejinja.

Kivejinja was appearing before Parliament’s presidential committee chaired by Mary Karooro Okurut on Tuesday.

He promised to ask the Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation (UBC), the Broadcasting Council and the Uganda communications Commission to resolve their administrative differences and have NTV back on air quickly.

“I didn’t want to interfere but now that you have given me a go ahead, I am going to call them and we discuss the issue, so that the television is back on air.”

NTV was switched off by the council at the end of January over claims that some of its equipment did not meet the required technical standards.

The Broadcasting council chairman, Godfrey mutabazi, blamed UBC for failure to submit NTV’s documents in time for approval. Mutabazi added that NTV’s antennae were too heavy to be fixed on their mast and they feared it could fall.

Rubanda West MP, Henry Banyenzaki, warned against ‘sabotaging’ investors, but Karooro advised the investors to follow the rules and regulations in the country.
