SEVERAL drivers and conductors are undergoing training to improve their discipline, as the country prepares for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

“A total of 500 professional drivers have been registered, while over 1,000 are undergoing refresher training to improve the transport services,” John Ndyomugenyi, the national chairman of the Uganda Taxi Operators and Drivers Association (UTODA), said.

He said they had opened up an office to coordinate CHOGM activities within the transport industry.

Ndyomugyenyi said they will also set up a database for all drivers, which will detail driver’s names and their work stations.

Drivers will also be given name tags for easy identification by foreigners and that the increase in professional drivers would reduce accidents.

Ndyomugyenyi said they had started benefiting from the CHOGM since many city roads were under repair.
