SAVE the Children Uganda will donate 3,640,958 Danish Kroner, (about sh1b) to combat HIV/AIDS among children in Kasese district over the next three years.

The adviser, Edmond Kertho, on Wednesday said the money would cater for prevention, care, support and treatment of children affected and infected by HIV/AIDS.

He added that the first phase of the project, worth sh328m, would be implemented by the National Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS and the Young And Powerful Initiative of South Rwenzori Diocese.

Activities will include accessing child-friendly health facilities and supporting families and communities by providing home-based care to make the beneficiaries self-sustaining.

In addition, a youth resource centre will be constructed and peers educated to promote positive behaviour among the youth.

Stella Mugisha, the regional HIV/AIDS adviser, said the targeted units are the infected children’s families and the communities.
