Justice Geoffrey Kiryabwire
It was only last year that the Judge of the Commercial Division of the High Court, said that pursuing a Masters in the U.K helped him to become the youngest judge in the country.

As a private attorney, he assisted in drafting the new Arbitration and Conciliation Act and in enlisting support for the new law. From 2000, Kiryabwire was one of the implementers of the Department For International Development Support for Reform of the Commercial Justice Sector in Uganda.

David Mpanga, lawyer
The State Minister for Research in the Mengo government came to public notice during the Kizza Besigye– Joan Kyakuwa rape case. He says England set the pace for his success. “In the U.K, I was in a very small class and teachers took time to understand me,” he explains. After five years of practice in the U.K, he returned home. Analysing Uganda’s problems, he thinks keeping quiet in the face of injustice is the trouble.
“If I make enemies by going to court, then let the courts be abolished,” he says.

Miriam Kawuma
The Corporate Strategy and Business analyst, uganda telecom, looks 20 years younger than her real age of 42.

“I have done 10 years of engineering and another 10 of everything,” she says.

Kawuma began work in 1987 as a trainee engineer in the Uganda Posts and Telecommunications Corporation. She remained in the engineering department until 1995, when she left for her MBA in Warwick University in the UK.
On coming back, she found the company separated into two branches – uganda telecom and Posta Uganda.

“I was on the team of five people, who were instructed to set up the telecoms,” she says.

In 1997, she moved from engineering to the finance control department. In 2003, there was another restructuring and she was to lead the team at the uganda telecom site despite the fact that she did not want to go back to engineering. Then chance came her way when she became the acting chief financial officer between July 2005 and November.
