PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has intervened in a row between Kayunga district LC5 chairman and the chief administrative officer (CAO).

Meeting the district leaders at the State House, Nakasero on Tuesday, Museveni advised Thomas Mulondo and the CAO, Joseph Maira, to concentrate on their duties instead of fighting each another.

“Each person should go back and do his work. We need harmony not disunity in the district,” Sulaiman Madada, the Bbale County MP, said.

He added that the President promised to meet them again in July.

Mulondo wants Maira transferred for failure to implement his directives and council resolutions.

He also accuses the CAO of failing to remit graduated tax compensation funds amounting to sh160m.

However, Maira claims the funds were used to pay salaries for gombolola chiefs and their staff.
He maintains that some of the money was used to co-fund Local Government Development Projects.

Previous reconciliation attempts by the local government state minister, Hope Mwesigye, and the NRM deputy spokesman, Ofwono Opondo, have not yielded positive results.

The wrangle between Mulondo and Maira has parlayed work in the district because development programmes cannot be approved on time since the two do not want to meet.
