But it was not only him who was appreciative during the weekend show at Open House on Buganda Road. That is because the show did not only have a bit of Mukuluâ€™s chorus cast and complete vocal arrangements; it was also an expert outsiderâ€™s view of Uganda. And for an outsider, this first attempt at writing a musical came with some sophistication of balanced lighting and measured melodies.
The play is about Hope (Pamela Otali), who has recently returned to Kyamulibwa village from the US with all these high-handed ideas of how to develop her homeland.
Only that the villagers do not understand her and her development specialist friends from the US just because they do not see a need of changing their lives. This is more of self-criticism to the largely expatriate audience.
