President Yoweri Museveni is expected to preside over the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) gala scheduled for June 28, an official has said.
“We have invited the president to preside over the product certification scheme gala for manufacturers who have demonstrated consistent capacity to conform to standards,†said Dr. Terry Kahuma, the executive director. He explained that the scheme, also implemented in Kenya and Tanzania, helps manufacturers enhance market access.
“Customers will have confidence in buying and purchasing a company’s product if they find it certified. This is why we encourage more companies to get certified,†Kahuma told journalists on Friday.
He said although the Government had increased their funding by sh1b in this year’s budget, they still needed sh7.2bn.
Kahuma revealed that they had secured land in Bweyogerere where they plan to construct office headquarters.
He added that they plan to purchase more vehicles, recruit more staff and open branches upcountry. He said the Government would amend the UNBS Act of 1983 to strengthen the weak laws on substandard products.
