SIR — These days there is been rush to undertake Masters degree programmes immediately after attaining a first degree. On the face of it, it is fine but if you analyse the matter you will realise that a Masters degree without field experience in the discipline studied is not a wise strategy. I do not know why people do not emulate doctors.

After a first degree, doctors have to work first before embarking on a Masters programme. This is in addition to internship that they have to undergo immediately after qualifying.

Even during the pre-internship period they interact with patients and this forms part of their professional experience. Don’t say that medicine is a complicated discipline requiring such rigorous training while other disciplines are not. They all hinge on human development and welfare.
There are many areas requiring trained people but fresh graduates shun such places!
