THE NATIONAL Book Trust of Uganda (NABOTU) is set to hold its 12th Uganda International Book Fair in September at Garden City. The fair, to run from September 19 to 22, will be part of the activities to mark the 15th National Book Week Festival which will be celebrated countrywide in different libraries, bookshops and schools.

The theme of the festival will be “Enhancing Literacy through local languages’.

This year, the festival will be held in more than 30 centres outside Kampala city.
The objective of the theme is to show the support of the book sector and its commitment to promote cultural values through writing, publishing and reading books in the local language.

NABOTU’s chairman James Tumusiime said: “There is need to boost local writers if the country’s book industry is to grow.”
The book week programme will include NABOTU awards, the children’s reading tent, community reading tent, cultural activities including public readings, poetry recitals, story telling and book talks.

Tumusiime said that the community reading tents will serve to fill the gap left by the Government and private investors in the establishment of public libraries.
