FOUR brothers in Lyantonde, including a 14-year-old, have been arrested in connection with the death of their father. The Police said they are suspected to have hacked Ben Mpwire, 50, a resident of Kabula village, to death.

They accused him of divorcing their mother and marrying a widow. The district Police commander, Michael Ssebuliba said Mpwire was murdered on Saturday at his home.

His body, which was recovered on Sunday, was dumped in a bush two kilometres away from his home.

Ssebuliba said the blood-trail led to his home. The Police found stains of blood in his house and arrested his sons, he added.

Mpwire’s youngest son told the Police that his elder brothers had threatened to kill him if he revealed the murder plot. Vincent Mwesigye, 26, who allegedly smashed his father’s head using a pestle, is suspected to have led the plot

The others are Tadeo Mujuni, 24, John Bosco Kakulu, 18. Their other brother, Joseph Mugisha, is on the run.

The district crime chief, Osuna Opendi, noted that Mpwire’s sons were not happy because he chased away their mother, Jascent Kayingo and cohabited with a widow, Magdalena Namatovu on the same village.

They claimed that they had dropped out of school because their father had refused to give them tuition yet he was educating Namatovu’s children.

The brothers told the Police that Mpwire had chased Mujuni and Kakulu out of the main house and they were sleeping in the kitchen. Mwesigye had a small house in the backyard.

Namatovu told the Police that her stepsons also wanted to kill her.
