EDITOR—It is appalling how the Makerere University and Makerere University Business School (MUBS) issue has been handled. However, I think MUBS has a point trying to be independent from Makerere University.

I have been a student at both institutions and in comparison, the general situation at Makerere is deplorable both in academics and management. At Makerere, the lecturer is the sole examiner and determinant as to whether a student will graduate in time or not at all.
It is difficult for people who were at Makerere in the last two or three decades to believe what is happening there. Things are totally different now!
Money comes first! In some courses there are no external examiners at Makerere to authenticate the marks awarded.
The student lecturer or lecturer is the one who determines this.
