A CANADIAN firm has confirmed the presence of uranium in western Uganda. After conclusion of the definitive agreement with NPK Resources on the Kibaale project, initial positive results on the project were confirmed.

“We have received positive results on our Tanzania project and have confirmed targets on our Ugandan project,” Uranium Hunter Corporation’s president and chief executive officer, Adam Cegielski, said in a statement.

The firm owns the Kibaale project, which consists of the Kagadi and Nkoko properties. Cegielski said the firm was looking forward to the first phase of the exploration.

“Uranium Hunter will now be initiating a full Phase 1 exploration programme in Uganda as it awaits further positive confirmation from the $42m (sh70.9b) mineral aerial survey which began in January,” it said.

“Our joint venture partners NPK Resources are strongly recommending ground follow-up including drilling in the fault zone in Kagadi.”

In 1981, a government aerial survey was carried out. The results indicated that Kagadi had highly-radioactive granite.

The Government, World Bank, African Development Fund and the Nordic Development Fund are sponsoring the $42m survey. Results are expected shortly and will aid in early exploration.
