Dende was so excited about finishing his Primary Leaving Exams, so he tore his identity card immediately.

However, when he was offered a place in S.1, he nearly dropped dead at the registration desk after he was asked to produce the identity card of his former school.

So, do not tear or throw your identity card away because at one point in life, you may be required to produce it as evidence that you attended school.

What is an identity card?
It is a document that gives details of who you are. An identity card bears your name, address, a photograph and sometimes the date of birth and reference number.

It should also bear the signature of the head of the institution, date and stamp. Equivalent documents include a passport and voter’s card. An identity card is usually renewed periodically.

An identity card is a pre-requisite for all students before they are allowed into the examination room. This is a measure put in place to minimise examinations malpractice.

In case you need to collect a testimonial, pass slip or a certificate from your former school, you must present it before you can be helped.

When going for an interview, on a journey, to the bank, or court, ensure that you have your identity card.

During times of war or political crisis, failure to produce an identity card may land you in jail.
