MPS yesterday queried the continued delay of the release of public servants’ salaries for July.
Emmanuel Dombo (Bunyole), who raised the concern, said although they were happy that their (MPs) salaries had been paid, the chief administrative officers were having a hard time explaining the delays to the civil servants.

The finance minister, Dr. Ezra Suruma said the delays were caused by the switch to the electronic funds transfer system by the Government.

“I would like to appreciate the difficulty of people whose salaries have been delayed for this reason,” he said.

Suruma explained that the change was meant to eliminate fraud but not to delay payments.

Henry Banyenzaki (Rubanda) said funds meant to supplement non-governmental organisations, health, water and social service departments had also not been disbursed.

Odonga Otto (Aruu) criticised the finance ministry and Bank of Uganda for not testing the new system before using it.
