In the realm of corporate dos in Kampala is the Royal Ascot Goat Races, whose concept was borrowed from the United Kingdom’s Royal Ascot Horse races.
This year’s event is slated for September 1 at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Aside from the fun at the races, giving to charity is another reason the races are held. Beneficiaries this year will include Katalemwa Cheshire Home and Nsambya Babies Home.
Last year’s beneficiaries included The Kids League, the Mama Bag Appeal, Salama School for the Blind, The Bakateyamba Home in Nalukolongo and Nsambya Babies Home.
Children take part in face-painting, pinball shooting, bouncing castles and are entertained by Kamooflage, Kampala Kids League & Radio Active.
Children under 14 pay sh5,000, while adults pay sh10,000. Gates open at noon. There will be eight races plus a choice of catering outlets offering a great selection of food and drink.
Guests will look out for hospitality tents from sponsors Crane Bank & Goldstar Insurance, Kampala Casino & UTL, Kenya Airways, MTN, and Open House (Cementers, Dunavant, Mansons, MechTools, Britannia, Tile Centre, Avon, Farm Engineering, Midland Group).
Goats are now on sale now from sh200,000 to sh600,000 each and can be got from Munyonyo just before the races start.
There are also raffle tickets on sale with high value prizes.
Although each goes for sh1,000 prizes usually include trips to scenic islands and return air tickets to Europe among other destinations.
