LEADERS and managers can now improve their knowledge and methods from their sitting rooms, courtesy of the British Council’s Virtual Forum.

Working with Capital FM, the British Council has taken to the airwaves what it has been giving managers and other leaders in and around Kampala, in what is called the Management Forum. The forum has been running for several years.
The Virtual Forum, a distinctive radio show, focusing on topical business and management issues, runs for one hour starting at 8:00pm, every second Thursday of the month. It started on July 19.
Sarah Barton, the British Council’s deputy director, says: “The Virtual Forum will be as interactive, dynamic and relevant as we can make it. We are delighted that Stanbic Bank has recognised the potential of The Virtual Forum and has agreed to sponsor it and to be working for the first time, in collaboration with Capital FM is exciting.”

Richard Meyers, the British Council director, says: “The focus for the Virtual Forum is a little wider than the Management Forum; aimed at people who are either already in business and want to improve their management and leadership skills, or those aspiring to do so. We are widening out the topics to help make it appeal to people from a wider set of backgrounds, including the public sector and education as well as business.

By featuring celebrated Ugandans from a number of backgrounds, we hope that our listeners can relate to the success stories of these celebrities and be encouraged to emulate their success.”

He says the format also allows them to take advantage of visiting experts from the UK who cannot always be present at the face to face management Forum events.
Jackie Namara Rukare, the head of marketing, Stanbic, says: “Our partnership with the British Council Management Forum has grown from strength to strength. The extension of the programme to radio means that we can reach a much wider audience and share the benefits of providing knowledge and expertise with a host of experts in various fields. We see the Virtual Forum as an innovation.

The Virtual Forum is designed to create a learning and interactive platform for sharing ideas with peers and subject experts invited by the British Council. It will link listeners with leaders whose thought-provoking insights, innovative strategies and enthusiasm will set the management trends.
