THE Government has rubbished reports that Libyan president muammar Gadaffi (below) refused to give his Ugandan colleague yoweri Museveni US$5m campaign cash because the latter skipped a scheduled meeting in Libya.

The foreign affairs ministry, in a statement, said, “Attention is drawn to an article appearing in The Weekly Observer of 19th to 25th January 2005, under the heading ‘Angry Gadaffi refuses to give Museveni US$5m campaign cash,’ purporting to disclose the record of a meeting held between Libyan and Ugandan officials.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to state that the contents of the said article are malicious and erroneous. At no time has any minister or official of the Government of Uganda travelled abroad for the sole purpose of soliciting funds for political campaigns as alleged.”
