KABAKA Ronald Mutebi has appointed a seven-member Ebyaffe committee to be chaired by Buganda’s former attorney general, J.W. Katende.

Katende, who resigned in the recent Mengo cabinet reshuffle, was the deputy chairman of the committee that was for several years headed by the late Bishop Yokana Mukasa.

A Kampala lawyer, Andrew Kasirye, who is the president of the East African lawyers Society, is Katende’s deputy, while Meldad Lubega, another lawyer, is the committee secretary.

Members are Hajati Sarah Baagalaaliwo, a member of the East African Legislative Council, Martin Kasekende, the managing director of the National Housing and Construction Corporation and Tonny Kiyimba Kaggwa, the former deputy speaker of the Lukiiko (parliament).

Omutaka Grace Ndugwa, the head of the Olugave clan, Katimbo Muggwanya, the minister for lands and property and Ssebwana Ssengendo, the chairman of the 18 traditional county chiefs, are also committee members.

Announcing the appointments on Wednesday, Kabaka Ronald Mutebi hailed the work done by the late Mukasa to recover the kingdom’s assets. He said his contribution would always be remembered.

Mutebi advised the new team to ensure that the remaining assets are regained.
The Ebyaffe committee follows up the assets, which the central Government has not yet handed back to Buganda.
