Why does MUK delay allowances?

SIR – I am vexed about the delay in distributing living-out allowances to students of Makerere University, including its business school in Nakawa.

The allowances are aimed at helping students on government sponsorship find suitable accommodation before the semester begins. Unfortunately, they always come at the end of the semester, if not during holidays.

So I wonder how a poor man’s child will manage because hostel fees are too high – some demand as much as sh350,000, which only a few students can afford. Could the concerned authorities do something about this?
