KAMPALA'S mayoral candidates were among the first voters at their respective polling stations yesterday. Peter Ssematimba and his wife, cast their votes at 8:30am at Rubaga Kakeka zone polling station. He predicted a 60%-70% win.
Wilson Kyambadde voted at 9:15am at the Old Kampala Sports Ground polling station, while Naiga Sserwanga, who also predicted a 60% win, cast her vote at 10:15am at Kitambuzi, Kanyanya.
Naiga was accompanied by her son, Arnold Mukalazi.
Hasib Takuba cast his vote at 11:20am at Kawempe Mbogo polling centre, while John Ssenseko Kulubya and his wife Juliet voted at Buziga Technical College School, in Makindye division at 10:30am.
Nasser Sebaggala arrived at his Kikulu College N-Z poling station in Kisaasi at 11:24am with his wife Gera and brother Latif. Ssebaggalaâ€™s father and his two wives also voted at around 10:45 am.
The candidates complained of shortcomings in the electoral process and attempts at rigging by some of their rivalsâ€™ supporters.
Sebaggala, Kyamba-dde and Kulubya said the governmentâ€™s late declaration of yesterday as a public holiday, affected voter turnup.
