Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) has been asked to regularise the handover of 15 plots (175-189) to Small Scale Industries Association based in Mbale town, in consultation with Uganda Land Commission.
In a letter dated February 8 and addressed to the presidency minister, Dr. Beatrice Wabudeya, state minister for information Dr. James Nsaba Buturo said the UBC  managing director had been advised to liaise with state minister for industry Jennifer Namuyangu.
“H.E. the President directed that the plots (175-189) be allocated to the Small Scale Industries Association,” the letter said.
The chairman Small Scale Industries Association, Mbale, Jude Mungoma, who expressed happiness at the development, told The New Vision that his association has been requesting to take over the plot for a regional show ground since 1999.
A source at UBC who requested for anonymity, however, said the plot located on Pallisa Road on the western outskirts of Mbale Municipality, had been earmarked for UBC regional TV and radio broadcasting facilities.
“It would be fair if the government allocated  some plots to the small scale industries and left a few for UBC to set up its facilities,” the source said.
The plot currently accommodates a redundant medium wave radio mast and transmitter building which stopped functioning in the early 1980s after the equipment broke down due to lack of spare parts.
