The term commonwealth should be changed because it is a mockery to under-privileged member countries, the Luweero vice-chairman has said.
Jonathan Kasule said the term creates a wrong impression that the less-privileged countries, of which Uganda is one, have material wealth which they share in common with former colonial master England.
“In Africa we have common poverty, not common wealth,” Kasule said during the district Africa Malaria Day celebrations, on Tuesday.
He said next year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government summit should address poverty, a fundamental problem among member countries.
