The Defence Experts Working Group (DEWG) of the East African Community (EAC) on Monday started a tour of the areas affected by cattle rustling in Uganda and Kenya, reports Nathan Etengu.
The group appointed by the EAC defence sectoral committee on cooperation and defence is to follow up the achievements in the joint disarmament exercise carried out by both Uganda and Kenya.
It is also to identify the alleged sources of small arms and ammunitions that entered the East African region, reach the areas most affected by cattle raids and its direct effects and identify measures that have been taken by both governments in curbing the proliferation of small arms and ammunitions into the region.
The team was to hold discussions with the local leadership in Soroti, Katakwi, Moroto, Nakapiripirit, Kapchorwa and Bukwo districts.
They will then cross to Kenya and hold discussions with the army and local leadership in West Pokot and Turkana district.
