THE Commissioner of Police, Frederick Yiga (right), was yesterday named new police spokesman, replacing Assuman Mugenyi, the southern regional Police commander.

Yiga, initially the director of the human resource development before going on a two-year study leave, returned recently from the US after successfully pursuing a PhD in criminal justice from Stanford University.

He also pursued a doctorate with his second masters in conflict transformation from the Centre of Justice and Peace building, Eastern minnesota University, virginia, US.

Police chief Maj. Gen Kale Kayihura yesterday said Yiga, whose appointment takes immediate effect, would also head a new department of information, public relations and protocol.

Patrick Onyango, who had been holding the post since Mugenyi was transferred in March, reverts to his old portfolio of assistant police spokesman.

Yiga once served as the Kampala traffic police chief and later as commandant of the Kibuli Police Training School.
