FORMER national champion Stephen Kawuma was one of the architect’s of Uganda’s second win at the chess Olympiad on Sunday.

Kawuma outwitted Malawi’s Charles Chimthere on board 1. The win pushed the team, ranked 117 to 11.5 points in the 13-round show due to end on Sunday.

Malawi has 7.5 points.
Shadrack Kantinti on board 2 beat James Kamowa whose country is ranked lower at 148.

Isaac Munanira defeated Leonard Sharra before Moses Kawuma sealed the rivals’ fate by dismissing Blessings Salanjira on board 4.
