Round 8
Uganda 2 Guatemala 2

STEPHEN Kawuma was the only Ugandan without a point as the team drew against the better rated Guatemala at the chess Olympiad on Monday.

The former national champion, playing on board 1, lost to International Master Armando Carlos, information from Turin, Italy indicates.

But Kawuma’s colleagues redeemed the team’s campaign against the rivals ranked 101.

Uganda, ranked 117, now has 13.5 points just like Guatemala.
Kantinti won Uganda’s first point.

The player, making a fourth appearance at chess’ biggest show, beat Francisco Eduardo.

Isaac Munanira drew with Alexand Marco as did Moses Kawuma against Antonio Carlos.

Five more rounds will complete the 13-round event scheduled to end on Sunday.
