The Speaker of parliament, Edward Ssekandi, has said he loves Buganda more than many ‘opportunistic’ Baganda politicians who used the kingdom’s issues to discredit him during the last parliamentary elections.

He said he could never plot against or preside over passing of any bad law against Buganda because he is a Muganda with a stake in the kingdom.

Ssekandi was speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the LC3 chairman for Kyanamukaaka in Bukoto Central, Paul Migadde, who defeated former chairman and DP stalwart Edward Katongole.

Ssekandi said he had contributed a lot for Buganda but wondered why some people wanted to portray him as anti-Buganda.

He blasted his former rival and DP member, Jude Mbabaali, saying he used Buganda’s failure to achieve Federo as a weapon against him, alleging that Ssekandi blocked it in Parliament.

“There were many Baganda legislators who never supported the Federo issue but later told the public they liked it,” Ssekandi said.
He said there was still need for Buganda to negotiate with the central government on the regional tier issue.

Ssekandi denied rigging the election. “I can even swear in the presence of my bishop (retired Bishop Paul Kalanda) that I never rigged and I do not even know the tricks to rigging,” he said.

He said Mbabaali, who is accusing him of rigging, should be counselled by the elders in the area because he was going astray.
Kalanda congratulated Ssekandi upon his re-election as Speaker.

Kalanda appealed to leaders to implement their manifestos instead of just talking about them.
