A COALITION advocating health rights and responsibilities has set up a desk to handle complaints at Mengo Hospital.

HEPS-Uganda comprises healthcare consumers, health practitioners and consumer service organisations concerned with bottlenecks hindering access to quality healthcare in the country.

Robert Peters, a Voluntary Service Overseas volunteer, said the counselling and complaints (C&C) desk will focus on access to essential medicine and its rational use.

“There are cases where healthcare consumers’ rights have been infringed upon without redress. We want to put a stop to this by providing a platform for health consumers to voice their complaints, which will be used to improve the healthcare system,” he said.

Peters said health consumers would suggest a feedback mechanism to start dialogue with the government, policy makers and health providers.

“There will be suggestion boxes at all health centres to harness information and facilitate feedback,” he said.
