Gone are the days when goods were packaged in an uninteresting manner. With the advent of modern technology, manufacturers are now tailor-packaging products, which involves marking boxes and containers with manufacturers’ logos and locations.

In the frontline advocating of packaging and labelling goods is the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS). The executive director, Dr Terry Kahuma, says packaging ensures that manufacturers are held responsible for the quality and quantity of their goods.

Kahuma adds that packaging meets international standards, especially in the manufacturing sector and displays certain information like manufacture and expiry dates.

V.M Shah, the managing director of Afroplast Enterprises Limited, says: “Packaging determines how the product is received on the market. If you want a large customer base, tailor the pack as the customer wants it.”

“Afroplast also helps customers in procuring security seals and other accessories to make their products tamper proof,” says Shah.

Packaging companies like AfroPlast also print logos, brand names and instructions on plastic containers. Afroplast has been making packaging containers for oils, industrial chemicals, cosmetics and lubricants for 10 years.

Meanwhile, Yoosuf Saleem, the marketing manager of Stat Pack, says packaging is an easy way to deliver goods to customers.

“Stat Pack does the sealing, labelling and marking of the products for easy identification and transportation. We also print packing tapes in all sizes to suit customer needs,” says Saleem.
