THERE was a 35-minute melee at the Parliament entrance yesterday as the police had running battles with National Freedom Party (NFP) chief Herman Ssemuju and his supporters who tried to force their way into Parliament.

Patrick Jaramogi writes that Ssemuju, who had joined a demonstration organised by the Young Freedomists, the youth wing of NFP, said he was angered by the Government’s refusal to pay costs for his household property that is being held at a London port.

As crowds gathered, causing tension at the Parliament Avenue, police presence was beefed up and Ssemuju was arrested and whisked off in a silver-grey Toyota Corolla Reg. Number UAH 691L to Central Police Station (CPS).

Ssemuju and his daughters, Hope Nakintu and Cissy Nakalyango, were detained at CPS after they recorded statements in Room 9.
